rubix cube success

Thanks to the cake optimist giveaway, more people have found out about my blog and started to order things.  For this past weekend, I had an order for a RUBIX CUBE cake for a birthday party.  I ordered some fondant and gathered up my courage and got to baking.  I have never made a fondant cake for something other than my cake class or friends so I was a little nervous, but it went surprisingly well.  I made three 8" square chocolate cakes and filled them with chocolate mousse.  I buttercreamed them and froze them and covered them with black fondant.  The rubix colors were cut with a pizza cutter and my sewing ruler.  I cut 2" squares and glued them on.  I'm not sure if this cube is solvable, but it turned out looking pretty cute!

 Hard at work.

Pretty rubixy.

There are no boxes tall enough, but I love this with the sticker!

  2. The cake was a hit! My husband said it was the best birthday cake he's ever had and the party guests went nuts over it. Not to mention, it was DELICIOUS! It looked great on the table and was a great finishing touch to the party. Several people were interested in getting one and took your cards, so I hope you get a few more orders out of it! Thanks again!

  7. Ashley - you are so professional!!! AWESOME! I'm concerned about the glue - is it ok to eat, if you can't even sniff it??:)
